I've written before about my love of Cornwall, so it seemed only natural that we should return there for a holiday before our son arrived in the world.

We stayed on the River Fowey, in Golant. As sleepy and isolated as you can get - the peace of the tidal river, the changing scenes, the lush wooded valleys. It was the perfect place to rest before the new adventures of parenthood began.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

If you're ever in the area, the Lost Gardens are a wonderful place - the gardens of a fine estate, lost to time and then rediscovered and reborn in modern times. It's a rich and deep place, full of corners to turn and places and plants to discover. The image below was the head gardener's office; a quiet, peaceful place.

You can see more about the Lost Gardens on their website.

Coastal explorations

It would be remiss to visit Cornwall but not visit the coast. Below are images from Polperro and our most favourite place on the planet - Whitsands bay.
