It was a rare and precious occurence - time to go on holiday with some truly spectacular friends. We headed north to a delightful cottage in Upperdale, just below the Monsal Head.

Below are a few glimpses of things we did in our time there - starting with water cascading from the face of Derwent Dam.

A drizzly day - we visited Blue John cavern. I enjoyed the abstract twists, shapes and colours in the rocks overhead, The water-cut rock exhibiting a strange softness in appearance.

We emerged from the cave into a day turned very grey indeed.

The sun set - although the light just gently faded, obscured as it was by mist and rain. The cottage casting a warm glow from the windows, inviting me back indoors.

On our final day, we explored a little of the Monsal trail - viaducts, tunnels and a long path.
